With this issue, we bring to a close our fourth year of publication. During this period, Computers & Composition has grown from a small newsletter to a small journal; Kate, Johndan, Edith, and I have grown from neophyte to well-worn editors; and our readers and authors have grown increasingly sophisticated in their tasks and expertise. All in all, not too shabby.

This issue also illustrates our community's growing expertise. Readers will note that this is our first laser layout and laser-printed issue. We typed articles into an IBM PC, transferred them to a Macintosh via MacLink, dumped these files into PAGEMAKER 2.0, worked with page layouts, and printed the pages on an Apple LaserwriterPlus. No muss, no fuss. [Note: As you might guess, the Senior Editors weren't involved in the layout process for this issue. --The Assistant Editors] Let us know what you think.

As far as the feature articles in this issue go, we're most proud. Starting off the issue, readers will find a series of four articles dealing with using computers in specific writing-intensive classes.

p. 6

The second, written by Frank Madden, describes the use of computers in a literature class. The third, authored by Goran "George" Moberg, discusses the use of computers in a remedial college writing class; and the fourth, written by Joy Reid, describes the use of WRITER'S WORKBENCH in ESL composition classes. The final feature article in this issue, by Bill Costanzo, explores the benefits of programming for teachers of English.

This issue also offers an ironically speculative article, penned by Richard Larsen, and two excellent software reviews, one of PROSE, by our own Assistant Editor, Johndan Eilola; and another of Bank Street Writer III by Maryls Styne.

Oh--don't forget! IT'S TIME TO RENEW YOUR SUBSCRIPTION. See the subscription form in the back of this issue. Please note that we have raised the price for individual subscriptions to $10.00 to meet rising publication costs.

So enjoy! Keep those cards and letters coming. Be on the lookout for good projects and articles that need publication in Computers & Composition.
